Given to me by my aunt and uncle when they returned from a trip to Iceland (thanks!).
Poured into a typical pint glass. Color is an opaque brown with a slight orange cast when held up to the light. Light tan head did not linger after pouring. Has a very sweet, all malt nose, with a hint of burnt chocolate and maybe a little anise. There is no hint of hops or anything floral or citrusy. The mouthfeel is full, which probably comes from whatever makes it opaque. The taste starts as strong, sweet, dark chocolate, followed by licorice that lingers until the next draught. I didn't get any hop bitterness, but my tongue is accustomed to strong American IPAs.
If I could get this in the US, honestly I probably wouldn't buy it again. But, I'm thankful that I was able to try an actual Icelandic brew.
