Yellow color, a little hazy, with attractive lacing in the Affligem tulip. Pleasant sudsy mouthfeel. Sharp but not acidic. Fairly sweet with malt, which seems to accentuate the fruity character of the mystery hop (or vice versa).
The aroma has a tang of onion, which is actually rather nice. I was thinking cat pee, which gives you an idea of the pungency. It actually seems to give off fumes. Flavor is something like pineapple guava, but then the sharp herbal taste. The bitter finish is quite benign-- it's something like a wild, dank mint flavor that blows out the receptors in your tastebuds leaving that crazy aroma in the lungs. Words fail, this really is unusual.
This is really worth tasting if you are interested in hop flavors. One of the more intriguing hoppy brews I've had this year. I think used sparingly this would be a killer for adding an unusual flavor to familiar beer styles. On tap at the brewery off Clairemont Mesa Rd.
