22 fl. oz. bottle
Served in a snifter
This beer pours black in color and is topped with two inches of tan head that leaves a little lacing.
It surprised me that the first thing I smelled was ripe, dark fruit. I also got hints of chocolate and roasted malt. I get a little nail polish remover every now and then which is a turn off.
The taste is a mixture of dark fruit and bitter chocolate with some unsweetened cocoa and roasted malt in the finish.
Full mouthfeel
It is a different tasting stout. The bitterness and nail polish remover are not pleasant. The dark fruit and chocolate are. Each sip brings different flavors. I was hoping for something better from a brewery that I respect. I like the barrel aged product better. It was interesting to try the base stout for Cincinnatus.
