Dark brown body with a tan cap and spotted lacing. Caramel, nuts especially hazelnut, and brown sugar aroma bouquet. Taste is reminiscent of chocolate hot fudge oozing over vanilla, hazelnut, and toffee with caramel oozing in on top of all of that. Finish has coffee bean dusting. Feel is lighter bodied however, keeping the sweetness at bay but also undercutting the body a bit. Makes it very drinkable while conveying the dessert flavor matrix.

Clear yet very dark body; fairly thick and creamy, light khaki colored head patchy sheets of foam spot the glass. Deep chocolate and fudge notes in the smell. Cocoa and milk chocolate flavors; sweet with a mild undercurrent of alcohol; subdued bitterness, perhaps mainly from the hazelnuts. Heavy body; sludgy residual sugars; boozy warmth.

Triple Digit concocted and bold and rich flavored brown ale. While there is a noticeable booziness to the beer, it takes a back seat to the heavy malt sweetness that permeates nearly every aspect of the beer. Delightful, pleasurable...

12oz bottle from Tavour. Dark brown pour, thin beige head. Aroma features the pecans first, then caramel. Taste flips over to the chocolate, sweet, followed by a nice roasty bite. Most of the Turtle candy seems to be captured in the aroma.

 

 

A: The beer is clear yet dark reddish brown in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high light beige head that left a narrow collar around the edge and some wisps of bubbles on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of caramel are present in the nose along with notes of hazelnuts.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of caramel with notes of chocolate and hints of hazelnuts.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer does a very good job at replicating the topping on a turtle pie.

Dark brown color with a slight head. Some lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of alcohol, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and nuts. Smells very adjunct laden This is a sweet, boozy beer so it is not really my cup of tea. Does it taste like a Turtle sweet? Not really. The hazelnuts have very little impact on the flavor as all I taste is chocolate and caramel that gets washed over with alcohol. Big body with good carbonation that gives a silky smooth texture.

This beer pours black and is topped with less than an inch of tan head that leaves no lacing.

As with all Chickow!s and its variants the hazelnut is front and center. The chocolate, vanilla, and caramel are expertly interwoven with the hazelnut. It smells great.

It tastes just like it smells. It is hazelnut forward. The chocolate, vanilla, and caramel finish off the flavor with a great dessert-like taste. It does not taste like any turtle that I have eaten. Granted I have only eaten snapping turtle in soup or once I made stir fry with some turtle meat. Maybe this was created to taste like a sea turtle or something.

Full bodied with a smooth, silky mouthfeel

This is a fantastic beer just like pretty much all Chickow!s variants that I have tried.

 

 

 

Imperial, savory and brown, the next turn for the Chickow series rests upon the famous turtle pie. Caramel, hazelnut, vanilla and chocolate wrap around the big toasty ale with dessert-like confection.

Dark brown but with a tawny bronze and garnet glow, the hazy ale thwarts any short lived foam and settles in the glass like port and coffee. Succulent aromas of hazelnut and all things turtle pie swirl in the nose with hints of coffee and molasses seeping onto the tastebuds.

As the malty richness slathers across the tastebuds, the lavish sweetness carries a bold caramel, toffee, molasses and maple character that leads into a robust nuttiness of pecan, hazelnut and vanilla bean. Simmering with a port-like tangy vinous spice, the finish is faintly bourbonesque with a long chocolaty linger.

Full, rich and not overly complex, the beer's one dimensional sweetness reveals a light extract quality, but its dedication to the pin point precision of turtle pie makes the beer's few shortcomings easily forgettable. Save this ale for an after dinner treat not to go with dessert but to replace it altogether.
