Thank to moose3285, who no longer inhabits these parts, for meeting me halfway between Cincy & Dayton, Ohio, for beers, & handing me a four-pack of random stuff for no apparent reason. He’s good people. 12 oz. bottle.
The pour is brown – see, it says there in the style, with carbonation racing vertically through the beer. Big barrel in the nose, dominated by the brandy, with a surprising amount of chocolate. Leans towards a liqueur.
Triple Digit Chickow! is nice paired with schizophrenic George Michael, veering from near-country to techno to schloppy crap. I think I stopped listening to the maestro at the right time. One gets bored in hotel rooms. The barrel combines for an interesting effect: cognac & brandy on top, with the bourbon only hitting the back of the throat as warm vapor, but that doesn’t capture the nuance of the combo. Quiet nuttiness, cocoa, oak flooring, brown sugar, angry caramel. Boozy, especially for just tipping double digits. I can feel my sinuses clearing. Goes down like Moose Drool. I think that’s probably not good.
The brown base holds up surprisingly well – my experience with barrel-aged things that aren’t big stouts, quads, strippers, or barleywines has not been good, but this one is sufficiently reinforced. Very good brew.
