12oz bottle, no date, but a recent 2020 release. Served in a snifter.
Notes from the brewer: "Collab with Hoppin' Vines. Imperial blonde stout w/ coffee, cacao, vanilla, & lactose."
Since there doesn't appear to be "Imperial Blond Stout" style, I'm going to treat it like an American Imperial Stout for this review as the next closest thing. It's too strong to just be a milk/sweet stout, although it does have that character.
Appearance: Dark amber with some ruby red highlights, mostly clear with a tiny bit of haze. Thick tan ring of foam with lots of fine islands of persistent lacing all over the place. Certainly not dark as per an American Imperial Stout, but it has the foam and lacing of one. The cacao and vanilla are certainly present, along with some definite sweetness.
Taste: Tastes a lot like it smells. Cream (lactose milk sugar), cacao, rum, coffee, and some bitterness at the finish that is part coffee, part roasted malt.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and nicely thick. Light carbonation, sticky on the teeth, some warming from the higher ABV which is noticeable.
Smell: Given that this beer is a tribute to The Dude (or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing) this beer certainly smells like a White Russian.
Overall: A great tribute to a great movie, and a great dessert beer all in its own right. I very often pick up beers that celebrate one of my favorite movies, and this does indeed tie the room together. A slow sipping beer to savor, and one is enough. The alcohol is more notable than I thought it would be - probably because this beer doesn't have a heavy roasted malt base to cover it up and the brewers were going for a bit of that alcoholic kick that you would get from a White Russian. One almost questions if it is a beer given how it tastes more like a mixed beverage. However, given that the brewer mixed together beer ingredients to get it this close in flavor and aroma - that speaks to a high brewing skill. A fun beer to try out and overall well done.
