A - Pours a completely opaque inky black, with a bit of warmness. Head is almost non-existent, but a bit of agitation yields a light tan bubble ring.

S - Pungent barrel notes of wood, vanilla, with dark chocolate accents. The booziness burns the nose a bit.

T - Opens with a strong chocolate hit, a bit of mocha hinting at the coffee presence, and a coconut and vanilla line through to cocoa bitterness on the back-end.

M - Moderate weight for 12%, which is to say this is big but drinks as something a bite less hefty. The carbonation is quite weak, which might be the age on the bottle or just the rendition. Not too big a deal, as the close still is pretty clean.

O - Listermann knows how to do big stouts, and this is one is certainly solid. The bottle size is good, as a bigger bottle would be too much. Glad I tried this.

The coffee variant is where it all comes together. It is much more bitter and there is a lot of coconut present. There are deep flavors that develop between all the ingredients. A step well above the base beer.

Deep, dark brown body, nearly black, opaque; thin yet lasting light brown head, dense and creamy; thin yet lasting sheets of foam paint the inside of the glass. Aroma of dark chocolate, cocoa, coconut, and vanilla; brownie-like. Nice, spicy and sweet taste; milk chocolate and espresso; bitterness offsets the heavy sweetness. Heavy, chewy feel; big residual sugar presence; dull sweetness with some alcohol and bitter dryness.

This is a rich, decadent beer. Its fat and sticky on the palate and oozes with deep, dull sweetness with just a nip of booziness to cut the edge.

Poured at 57 F; no bottling information seen.

A - Dark brown pour with thin toffee colored lacing.

S - Coconut and subtle toasted chocolate on the nose.

T - Toasted chocolate, toasted cocoa with spicy malt character.

M - Big, thick, syrupy-like mouthfeel that's silky soft.

O - Really dig this beer. Recommended.
