Poured from 12-ounce bottle into an art deco-inspired long-stemmed thistle glass. Deep brown colored body, with a long-lasting thick tan head that left some pretty lacing. Don't be put off by the sugars used in the brewing process. This is not overly sweet. Nice balance between the sweetness and the roasty malt, char, and sharp bitterness. This is everything I like in a stout, and it's smooth and drinkable. It finishes dry, with a bit of astringency. Why the fancy glass, you ask? It seemed appropriate for the classy label art, which is a rendition of Frank Duveneck's "Whistling Boy" from 1872.
