Appearance – The appearance was mostly black with a slight appearance of bubbles.
Smell – The nose was largely bourbon, though it was not overwhelming.
Taste – The profile is well balanced. Succinctly, I would describe it as bourbon fudge. Yet the fudge is not overly sweet. There are notes of tobacco in the background. Though it is not overdone, there is a slight warming sensation in the end.
Mouthfeel – This is a smooth example of the style.
Overall – This is my first beer from Imperial Oak and I am impressed.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 2/18/16, aged 8 months in Oppidan Spirits Malted Rye Whiskey barrels.
Pours a dark brown, opaque, with no real head and a slight amount of lacing. Smells great- malt, chocolate, whiskey, cocoa, some oak, light vanilla and rye. The taste also leads with the malt, then more whiskey and vanilla than the nose, cocoa, oak, less chocolate than the nose, malt, some rye, light molasses. Smooth, great body- pretty full bodied for the lighter ABV, the taste lingers.
Really liked this one, liked the different flavor these barrels imparted. Well blended, a big effort at 8.50%.
