12 ounce can into a snifter. Had 9/14/19. Also had on tap.
Pours near black and opaque, thick looking, with no head, no real lacing. Aromas of bourbon, tobacco, malt, char, prunes, figs, molasses, smoke. Excellent aroma. The flavor is pretty much the same, and just as excellent- bourbon, char, tobacco, malt, molasses, prunes, figs, oak. Smooth, a solid full body, well carbonated.
This is beautiful. It’s fairly focused, but explosive. Incredible barrels, terrific aromas and flavors. Big effort.

Had on tap. Much better than last year's version, and last year's was great! Where last year the bourbon and wood barrel really shone through, this year the whole beer wrapped itself in the bourbon in a rewarding way. All the nuances from the bourbon are there, plus wood, molasses, brown sugar, dark fruits, huge bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, and slight coffee and tobacco all present together. Taste opens up more than smell, but both the same flavors. Feel is bourbon textures in a beer as much as I have had in a long time without losing the RIS feel.
