2020 variant. Brewed with lots of roasted and crystal malts for body and complexity and aged for a full year in Quincy Street Distilling Malted Rye Whiskey Barrels. Real tart cherry juice is added to the barrels during aging to allow the simple sugars to ferment and adding complexity.

12 ounce can into a snifter. Released 6/26/20, had 10/30/20.

Pours dark brown, opaque and oily looking, with no head and a few specks of cling. Aromas of rye whiskey, chocolate, roasted malt, tobacco, oak, molasses, light vanilla, light char, light cherries- more as it warms. Has a spicy aroma. Like flavors- rye whiskey, roasted malt, chocolate, oak, tobacco, some cherries and vanilla, some char. Has a spicy flavor. Smooth, a very good full body, appropriately carbonated.

Great barrels, lots of well developed aromas and flavors. The cherries show pretty well, would have liked them to have a bigger presence. This has some complexity to it. Very enjoyable.

12oz can poured into a snifter shows a muddy, dark brown, headless body leaving a clean glass behind.

Aromas of cherry and barrel: vanilla; oak; and char, flow into matching flavors. Cherry flavor has thankfully mellowed in the three or so months since release, while the bourbon and barrel notes remain.

Mouthfeel is silky and leaves a slight residue on the palate. Three months ago this was more cough syrup like, and now it hints at a cough drop taste on the lips.

Overall, glad I got to savor it. We'll see what another three months does to my last can.
