6oz draft pour into a snifter is a muddy brown, opaque body barely allowing light through, what does get through shows a clear body.
Complex aroma includes tart, but dark fruit, some must and spice. The flavors match. With warmth, this is close to port, but with less of an alcohol burn. Hidden 14% abv is a mystery to me, and not sweet, because "we add the (currant) juice to the barrels during aging which adds complexity and allows the simple sugars to ferment, preventing the beer from becoming too sweet". That works here. Templeton rye barrels add a spicy note to the cocoa influenced base.
Mouthfeel seems a little thinner than the base, as expected with juice added, yet still full and almost chewy with a slight tart linger.
Overall a nice use of fruit and barrel.

12 ounce can into a snifter. Released 6/3/22, had 8/8/22. Aged one year in Templeton Rye barrels.
Pours a dark brown, opaque and thick looking, with a quarter inch head of darker foam and some foamy lacing. Aromas of black currant, rye whiskey, malt, some oak and char, light vanilla and chocolate. Flavors of black currant, rye whiskey, malt, oak, a little chocolate and vanilla. It’s fairly tart. Smooth, a solid full body, appropriately carbonated.
Really enjoyed the currants, both terrific and prominent. The great barrels have to accept second place, this time. Typically solid base. Very nice.
