A- had a nice rustic woody lodge feel to it which makes sence cuz it's a lodge. at night i can see this place being a snobbish hangout.

Q- seemed basic. nothing overboard or outstanding.

S- our server was nice and pleasant. the hostess seemed like it was her time of the month tho.

S- not alot of beer selection but i guess they have enough basics. the food selection wasn't crazy but good enough.

F- the onion rings were tasting and my gf got the ranch flavored fries which were also tasty. the only complaint i can say is i ordered my burger medium and the thing was charred all around it. i shoulda ordered medium rare.

Overall- this place isn't too shabby. we went around 2 30ish. if you go later for dinner the prices seem to jump up. if you're traveling up 23 i would say stop in but don't go out of your way to get there. the beer wasn't that good.

P.s. there r banners of the awards they won in the past. but please remember that was with a different brewer. doesn't mean they are as great today as they were with the award winning brewer.

This brewpub/restaurant (largely a restaurant) is right off the highway, giving it a sort of strip mall vibe. There is inside and outside seating - I say outside and it was pretty nice (although the surrounding area, aka the highway, wasn't too exciting). Interestingly, even though this place has a decent-sized beer selection and has some award-winning beers, we were not even given a beer menu when we sat down (just a food menu and a wine menu)! The entrees were fairly expensive ($15-17 I believe) but tasty. The beers themselves were not great, except for the Cream Stout and RIS. Overall, I had an enjoyable time here. As another rater mentioned, the beer prices were higher than most other Michigan brewpubs I visited.

Stopped in for the first time tonight and needless to say it was well worth it.

When walking in you're presented with a hunting lodge type feel. Very inviting

Ended up just getting a sampler of the Cream Stout, Kolesch Golden Ale, Munich Helles and what I believe was a Trippel Beligum Ale. All were quite good and very smooth.

Since I was just stopping in before places to go, I just had a bowl of their Steak Tipped Chili which was quite good also. The food seemed to be a little pricey, but had a nice assortment of your typical restaurant and wildgame dinners. I hope to try a Entree next time

The Redwood Lodge also has a Cigar room which was also very nice and had a great feel to it. Classes are held once a month on various tastings.

Overall A great experience and definately will go back!

I stopped in here for a pint shortly before flying out of the Flint airport. Odd office park location wedged-in between two highways and the airport. The inside is like a Disney-style or national park hunting lodge. Clean, dark, tacky and woodsy. Some TVs showing football. The back corner with the bar and brewing operations is nice, with big copper kettles and a large airy space.

Nice selection on tap, with a wide variety of styles. I tried the IPA and the cream stout. Both were good and well crafted. OK service sitting at the bar. Unfortunately, not enough time to try the food because I had a flight to catch. I'd come back here again if I were in the area.

Visited during recent vacation. Haven't been here in about 10 years.

Atmosphere is rustic, hunting lodge feel. Lots of smoke aromas in the air from the mesquite grill. Large open spaces.

Quality wa great - food top notch and beers were good as well.

Service was expectional. Our waitress was attentive, but not hovering. Had some good recommendations for food. She knew the menu and the beers, always a plus with me.

Selection was very good, as well. Previous comments that you were stuck with their sampler are moot now. You can select from anything they have on tap, minimum of three beers, which wasn't hard to meet. I had the hefe, munich helles, porter, and american IPA. All were dead on or close to style and very nice examples of the style. Settled on the Porter with dinner (hunter steak) and a smoked chocolate porter with desert.

Food was fantastic. If/when I get the chance to go back, I'll have a steak, mesquite grilled. Large selection. Previous comments on lack of vegetarian selections were way off. Lots of seafood/meatless selections available.

Value was very good, two adult entrees, two kids meals, appetizer, beer sampler (4 beers), two pints, three deserts and three drinks were about $80. Not bad for the high quality beer and food selections. I wish it was close enough to be my local.

Note - Redwood earned the best small brewpub in the US at the 2008 Great American Beer Fest - it was well earned. If you are close, go there.

Visited with my travel companions on a snowy Sunday afternoon.

Atmosphere is good, if BIG open air deer lodge like places with lots of dead animals hanging from the walls is your thing.

Food looked and smelled good. We had eaten previously though and went without. It seems to be a carnivores dream however.So, if you are a vegetarian all I can say is good luck!

All of the beers we tried were decent or better with the Maple cask Porter stealing the show....even better than their gold GABF winning Cream Stout.

The service was decent.. a little slow and our bartender would disappear for minutes on end into the "lounge" area. At times we were wondering what happened to her. This was counterbalanced by very friendly service was she was around.

Good selection of house brewed beers with 12 beers available to include two offerings on cask. Having a cask selection (or two) is always a plus in my book.

A solid place, especially for Flint! Easily reached off the highway making it a convenient stop. I will most certainly swing in again when passing through the area.

Went here with my gal pal on an ordinary Friday night and this place was rockin! Packed it was, but was a great atomphere! Lively but not too loud.

The quality of the food was awesome! We shared a margarita pizza and it was delicious. I had the 5-beer sampler and they were decent. I wasn't super impressed--they all seemed sub par but where fun to sample nonetheless. Still beat macro sludge by a long shot!

The service was decent.. a little slow but super friendly and seemingly knowelegable about the food and brew alike. It was super busy so a *little* slow really wasn't too bad.

The selection wasn't bad at all. I was very impressed with the vast number of their own brews available at one time.. seemed like there had to be about a dozen. This seemed pretty amazing for a place that only sells it in-house (i think). The food selection was o-k. Lacking in vegetarian options, but it all looked (and smelled!) great.

As I mentioned, the margarita pizza we had was so great, I'd have a hard time trying other things, but I will definitely have to sometime, because by the smell of the place, the pizza wasn't their only delicious option.

I was impressed with the value. A pizza, two salads, a beer sampler, another pint for the girly girl, and a shared desert, and I don't think I broke $40. Can't go wrong with that--especially with the quality.

Overall, I'll be back to the lodge for sure to see what else they have to offer.

Large indoor space with a lodge theme. Lots of big game on the walls. Cigar bar in the back. Brew site on premises and can be seen from the dining area.

The beer was good quality and there were several awards visible.

Our waiter was very attentive and the manager even came out to apologize that they didn't have the food we were looking for.

The beer selection was good and I was impressed to see that they served cask ales.

I had a NY strip steak with a kolsch marinade that was delicious. Tuna steaks with the wasabi dipping sauce was good too.

Beer is reasonably priced, the food can add up quickly, but the portions are large and it is great food.

I dropped into this place on my way up north for a camping trip. The first thing i noticed was that it was set back in a kind of industrial park, which i thought was weird for a brewery. Then we walked in and it turned out to be very nice on the inside, with ample seating. We were there on a Friday night, and had no trouble at all getting a table.

They had about 10 beers on tap. Whenever i go to a new place, i always order a sampler. I found it rather annoying that they wouldn't let you choose which beers were in the sampler... you had to just take the five they gave you. However, they also have a super-sampler option which includes all ten. This was fine for me since i wasn't driving, but my friend found it rather annoying that he couldn't choose his beers without ordering all of them.

Regarding quality, most of the beers were very good. I didn't care for the light beer (almost never do), and one of the pilsner's tasted a little like feet. But all of the other beers were very good, with a couple of them (the cream stout and the seasonal wheat beer) bordering on exceptional.

Price-wise, the beer was reasonable, but if you're going here for dinner, be prepared to drop a few bucks. The cheapest thing on the dinner menu that wasn't a salad was 21.99. The food is very good (best steak i've had this year), and worth the price, but be forewarned that this isn't your average 6-dollar-burger brewpub. Growlers, however, were very reasonable, at 10.50 apiece.

Service was fairly good; the waitress didn't know a whole lot about the different beers, but she was timely with everything, and very friendly.

Overall, this was definately a good trip, and if you're in the Flint area, it's pretty much your only option for a good microbrew that I've found so far. Just be prepared to drop a few bucks if you're going there during dinner hours.

I stopped at the Redwood Lodge for a late lunch on a dreary Sunday afternoon. The lodge theme is very evident when you walk through the doors. There's trophies and outdoors gear decorating the log cabin-esque dining room. It was a nice respit after too many hours on the road, with many miles left to travel.

The menu is more steakhouse than pub. There was page full of weekly specials in addition to the standard dinner menu. A nice variety of seafood is listed along with the afforementioned steaks, pastas and wood-fired pizza. I ordered halibut served with fruit salsa, rice pilaf, squash and a house salad. The fish was flakey and delicious and the bread served with the salad was very nice.

Redwood Lodge had eleven beers on tap. I had a pint of cream stout. It hit the spot for me. There was a good range of basic pub beer, but don't expect anything over the top. They do cask conditioned ales, too. Prices varied a little, but expect to pay about $4.00 a pint.

I had a very good meal and a nice pint of beer. The only thing I have to add is about the pricing. Think of the Redwood Lodge as a steakhouse that brews beer. (and when I say steakhouse, I don't mean chains like Outback) Go here for a special occasion, or when you want a good meal, not when you want a burger and a beer, unless you're on an exspense account: )

My experience started with a call to make reservations witch they don‘t take, just call ahead seating. The gal I talked to was not very helpful, and it seemed like I was wasting her time.

When we arrived the hostess seated us right away, in a large open area close to the wood fired brick oven. Looking over my left shoulder I could see the brewing equipment, and bar. It took the wait staff a long time to take our orders, but we were their at 5:00 on a Friday night.

I ordered the super sampler, which is 12 beers brewed at the lodge, I’m not sure if they are six or eight ounces. If you get this it might be a good idea to have DD. I was very happy with all the beers, even the Redwood light.

I was happy with all the food as well, I ordered the Montana strip, very good. All the food at the table looked good as well. The wife said the Pizza was a bit cheesey

The service was slow at first, but things did get better, overall a good time. I would recommend the Redwood lodge, and I would go again.

Redwood Lodge is right off Rt. 23 in Flint and is easy to spot from the freeway. There is a large parking lot on 2 sides of the building.

Inside, the space is gigantic with the bar area on the left allowing for a full view of the brewing apparatus. The kitchen is in the back right and there is seating everywhere. The lodge theme is obvious from the moment you walk in. Lots of dark wood and outdoors-y colors, antler chandeliers, the whole shebang.

The beer selection is good. There are 11 beers on tap, with a couple seasonals. They offer everything from a Light to a Russian Stout. The beers are available in 2 levels of samplers for either $4.25 or $9.75. The beers on above average on the whole, with a couple standouts.

The service here is excellent. Our hostess was one of the kindest people I have ever met. She was visibly pleased that we were visiting from out of state and genuinely wanted to make sure everything was to our liking. You don't see that too often these days. Our server also knew the beers very well.

Food at Redwood is an interesting assortment of meats (priced at market value on a chalkboard). I had a steak burger and my wife tried the Rueben. My burger was great but she said the Rueben was a little overdone. Still, overall the food was tasty, and the chips were excellent.

Overall this place obviously pays more than lip service to their beers and it shows. I would definitely make it a point of stopping by here the next time I am passing through.

As stated in other review, the Redwood Lodge is just off Route 23 exit 90 (Hill Rd). You can see it from the highway and is located in a business park with several chain hotels and businesses. This is a very large restaurant. It contains a seperate area (Sequioa Room) for live bands and the smoking clientel. There is also a walkin humidor area for one to pick up a nice cigar. Luckily smoking isn't allowed in the main dining room area. Also the noise from the band doesn't invade the rest of the space (only when someone walks between the areas). Decor is traditional lodge style cabin, open timbers, antlers and animal heads. Maybe a little over done but all in all a very nice layout. The bar area is a large L shaped bar with the brewing equipment artfully displayed behind. The brewing system is a 15BBL DME system. Beautiful copper lined tanks. Most of the brewing operation (kettles, etc) is further back and harder to see from the bar area. Unsure if tours would be available since it was fairly late when we visited. Selection of beers was good. All in house brands except maybe 2 guest taps (pear cider and a lambic). Selection ranged from a light lager beer all the way to a Russian Imperial Stout (with Kolsch, Hefe, Helles, Saison, Maibock, Pale Ale, Porter, Cream stout, etc) in the middle. All of the beers were good with several standing out a little more. No real risk takers in the bunch. Prices for beer were reasonable. $4 per pint and I think $5-6 for a sampler.

Food was tasty with good selection of appetizers and entrees. Steaks are mostly listed as market price which makes purchasing a little of an unknown. I had the weekly special (venison). Good portions but a little pricey @ $23. Beer and Onion Soup was a wonderful starter. Others at my table had pizza which also looked delicious.

Service was excellent. Very prompt and knowledgeable about the beers and the food. Overall I would recommend anyone in the area swing by and check this place out.

Located at the split of Highways 75 and 23 is one of the best brew pubs I have ever been to. The location is easy to find, it is a tease if you are on the highways and don't have time to stop in. The beers are exceptional, many GABF medals credited to this place and not a bad beer to be had. No smoking except for a cigar lounge area which has its own bar, nice. The interior is rustic northern deer camp, wood and antlers everywhere, the brewing system is right behind the bar and is active, almost always. The food is exceptional and well worth what seems to be a high price, I take food home from here and that rarely happens. Love this place, get there.

Stopped by here for lunch on a whim, and then came back a few days later for dinner. The atmosphere is quite nice when it isn't too busy. On weekend evenings its pretty hopping, but even then the servers are attentive. Its a hunting / log cabin theme, but not cheesy and overdone like many places are. They keep the lighting pretty dim and have candles at every table, but its not too dark at all.

There is also a cigar bar that is sectioned off from the main restaurant and it has live music (jazz, blues, classic rock) on weekend nights. They have all their beer taps in there, as well as many wines and spirits. They also have a humidor with cigars you can purchase there if you so desire.

Overall, the food quality was very good, definitely worth the price they ask. They have a broad selection of foods, including some interesting pizzas. The pizzas are damn tasty, I might add, and one of the cheaper ways to go on food. The servers are very familiar with the food and were able to make good recommendations. I have been here on several occasions and can vouch that the seafoods, steaks, and pastas are all worth the money.

Redwood brews some top notch beers. They usually have a nice selection of Germans and Americans, with a Belgian or two thrown in. There are always 2 beers on cask - very good stuff. If you are in the Flint area, you should really check this place out for some local brew, and kickass food if you don't mind dropping a few bucks.

We had just time for a quick stop here, but wanted to try their GABF Gold-winning Cream Stout. Despite being in a commercial office/hotel park, interior was done all over with log cabin theme, down to stuffed animal heads on walls. Big roomy dining area, with plenty for family. The brewing equipment was set right behind the L-shaped bar, a nice effect. We sat at the bar and ordered a sampler and their chili. Chili was great, but service was slow, perhaps because it was a busy Saturday night. The cream stout was indeed excellent. I also tallied a Munich Helles and pale ale among their finer efforts, and it's nice when a brewpub has a good lager on hand. Few other beers were pedestrian examples of their style, but surely nothing off-putting. And yes, they had a light beer which was at least OK. A good stop off for the area northwest of Detroit.
