Opaque darkness to the body; dense and creamy head, very thick and rich. Dark, malty aroma; mild milk chocolate; rich. The taste exudes an excellent mixture of roasted grain char, bitter chocolate, and a sinful suggestion of alcohol. Heavy body; rich and nearly syrupy (but not cloyingly sweet)l; softly acrid char counterbalanced with a heavy sugar residual; a bit hot with the booziness but well-tempered with the residual sugars.
Four Fathers seems to excel at dark beers. This dark brute follows along this line, rich and decadent with a noticeable yet approachable boozy kick.

Black IPA poured into a Four Fathers pint glass.
Pour is black as night, with a slight tan colored head.
Smell is roasty and bitter. Not much else, but it is gushing with a nice malty, hoppy smell.
Taste follows the nose. Malty, roasty, resinous hops. Nice balance between the hops and the roasty malts. Finish is nice, and the lingering coffee bitterness is welcomed. Green coffee and slight acidity smooth out this beer.
Mouthfeel is creamy yet crisp. Nice crisp bitterness from the hops, yet a nice creaminess from the malt base.
Overall a great beer. So far one of the two black IPAs that I've actually enjoyed. Very good brew from a great brewery.
