Black, sweet smelling beer that fails to deliver on the red wine barrel promise.
I wish the wine came across better. Otherwise, this is a perfectly passable porter that doesn't quite stand out compared to Spellbound's much better offerings, like the always available Palo Santo Porter

On tap in the Spellbound tasting room
Appearance: Pours dark brown with a thin coating and collar of a light khaki colored head. Body is nearly opaque.
Smell: Red wine, oak, black currant, red berries, chocolate and roasted malt. Lots of barrel character, but doesn't overwhelm the base beer.
Taste: Red berrry, roasted malt, chocolate, oak, red grape, lots of oaky red wine tannins, very light tartness, but not sour or funky at all. Really nice.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium, fine carbonation and a dry-ish finish. A little thinner than ideal, but not watery by any means.
Overall: Really nice porter. Lots of barrel character in the aroma and taste, but doesn't overwhelm the base beer. One of the best beers I've had from these guys. I really hope they make this one again.
