Can: Poured a black color lager with a nice large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt notes with some black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix of dry black chocolate notes with some roasted malt notes with faint bitterness. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Nice easy drinking schwarzbier

Went looking around for random beers I've never had before, and decided I'd buy a 473ml can of this dark stuff. Let's try it out.
L: Definitely what a black/dark lager should be. Has that ruby red tint in correct lighting, and has a very minimal head to it.
S: It's very grainy in scent, and has feint notes of dark chocolate floating around in there I think.
T: I think the coffee flavouring in it is a bit too strong, and doesn't quite compliment the molasses-esque bits also present.
F: Dry, almost like licking a brand new leather boot. Runs nicely off the tongue though. Nice.
Overall: Not bad, but not great either. It's not as wheaty as I thought it would be, which I suppose is to be expected since it's not meant to be a wheat beer. It's like going to your favorite cafe, only to have the new barista making a cappuccino with three shots of espresso that you didn't ask for. Worth trying, but this one isn't for me personally.

750 ml mini growler purchased from the brewery. Served fairly cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - thin looking color brown in color nearing black. Tiny little whips of head is poured and not much retention and no lacing.
Smell - dark, earthy and roasty with some notes of coffee combined with a full Grainy aroma. Hints of caramel and molasses, with an underlying sweetness.
Taste - some graininess initially, an underlying sweetness of sugary caramel that is unusual and some earthy and slightly bitter flavours afterwards. Coffee is only marginally present. As mentioned the defining feature is the fleeting sweetness which has some significant appeal.
Mouthfeel - smooth, well carbonated but fairly light bodied and easy to drink.
Overall - a well made schwarzbier that is prettystandradoutside of a lingering and fleeting sweetness. Certainly worth a try if in the Peterbororugh area and a worthy addition to their growing lineup,
