Served from the tap. It pours a darker brown/black color with a nice head that slowly diminishes and leaves lacing. The nose gets roasted malts, followed by the same with notes of black malts. Alas! While they call it a pils, I agree that it is more of a Schwarzbier. Decent overall.

something quite special here, easily my favorite of the beers i had from these guys, on tap and not quite black, reddish on the edges in bright natural light, frothy headed, looks nice. i think to call this a schwarzbier isnt unreasonable, like this is a dark german lager without a doubt, distinctively german in both its grain complexion and in its yeast profile, nicely lagered by the way, but i also think calling it a black pils has some merit, this has more hops to it than i generally associate with a schwarzbier, and the there is a crispness thats more in that pils range too, a pretty impressive specimen i reckon. not real heavy on the dark grain, although there is some roast derived bitterness to my senses. hints of dry cocoa, charcoal, and minerals, nice and dry overall, but still with that german grain earthiness to it, and some almost slate and clay minerality from the yeast. the hops add bitterness but also a little bit of herbal character right before the swallow, trace black pepper or licorice, molasses, and coffee. delicious combination of flavors in a lighter than it looks body for sure, well carbonated, drinkable to the point of almost being refreshing, odd for its color, not too intense for delicate seafood, really great.
