The best beer by far at the Aloha Brewpub associated with Sam Choy's. Smooth and strong and a nice but not overbearing hops level. Not always available -- one of their rotating special beers. Mmmm, tasty. Try it at least once with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (on the menu at the brewpub).

A finger of deep-tan/light brown head foaming with CO2
bubbles with good retention. Nose was roasty, chocolatey, coffee, even a bit of toffee. Mouthfeel was a tad thin, but otherwise not bad. Color was a deep-brown with ruby highlights. Taste was mildly bittersweet again, think coffee, cocoa, toffee. Finish had a lingering toffee flavor. Wow!

On tap at Sam Choys in Honolulu, HI.

Poured a deeper brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of honey, roast, chocolate and nutty. Tastes of lighter honey, roast, chocolate and had a light coffee bitter finish.

Notes from 11/03/07.

Like the other reviewer, I've found most of the beers At Sam's Breakfast Lunch & Crab to be good but not memorable. But the Kiawe Honey Porter does merit a special mention. Very drinkable, great smell, and unlike the other beers at BLC, has a nice amount of carbination (the others are sometimes lacking, but there have been improvements). I'd go to BLC for the food alone, but this beer makes the trip worthwhile.

Served on tap, but also available in growlers.

I haven't found any of the beers Iv'e had at Sam Choy's to be very memorable, but I found this to be the best of the bunch.

Poured near black with a light head. Nose was somewhat sweet with malty hints. Taste was of dark malts, coffee and somewhat sweet. Quite pleasant.

The mouthfeel was light, creamy and smooth. Overall, a pleasant brew that I wouldn't mind having another.
