July 3rd, 2015 - Chain Reaction's Scotch Ale is a tasty and dark brew. Though the flavor seems to stray far from the orthodoxy of a smoky, strong brew. The aroma is true too style with a nice, shaggy malt scent. But the flavor has a lot of guava and passion fruit, and served on a lighter palate. In that way it tastes more like an ester rich red ale, but it's still tasty.

one of the most interesting scotch ales ive had in a long time. its a million different things all at once. smoky and malty of course, but also quite light for how strong it is. i was blown away by the delicacy of it, for such a flavorful beer especially, but it almost seems too light, not watery, but absent bodied for a scotch ale, but it works in summer real well. there is a distinct red apple flavor to this too, like fresh apple juice, skins and all, you get it really distinctly right in the middle. pretty interesting flavor in a beer like this, not sure where it comes from, but i like it, and it makes the transition to fall awful well. there is a mild sweetness running through it too, on par for the style, but long lasting here. the apple lingers too, with a swirl of caramel and biscuit and toffee from the grain, as well as a little campfire smoke, short of peaty, but getting there on the earthy front. fun beer, really different, and with an insanely well hidden abv. i was really impressed with this one, and look forward to my next pint!
