this is apparently made from second runnings of the belgian rye stout, pretty cool concept, i can get almost more rye in this one than in that one, maybe it sparges out later, or holds more flavor longer in the mash, not sure, but i like how much rye spice i get on this. the darker malts seem a lot more tame though, more like brown ale than a big stout, but thats just fine too. more of a chocolate malt flavor, and definitely a totally different yeast, this doesnt taste belgian at all. more of a roggen type, german almost in some ways, i like it quite a bit. one of the easier drinking beers here too, i feel like so much of their stuff gets into the high abv range, its nice to have one that i can slam several of and still drive home. i still think these guys are one of the best (and probably most underrated) breweries in denver, but the word is finally starting to get out. i think i still prefer the original belgian rye stout to this one, a little more depth there, but the rye flavor is pronounced here and its a very good winter beer overall.
