a really killer idea and wonderful execution, a belgian dubbel brewed with real waffles! who the heck thought of this? its brilliant. sure its desserty, all the normal sweetness of the style, the candy sugar sort of thing going on with the chateau type malts, but also some obvious pastry baked sweetness from the waffles, which maybe makes this so i couldnt have a ton of it, but it really makes this good, and very distinct, the waffle element isnt subtle at all. deep garnet in color with medium clarity and some browner darker edges, short tan head dissipates fast. so much character to this, subtle cherry, cola, maple, relatively mild belgian yeast, some banana and fall spice esters make the waffles jump out even more. brown sugar and toffee and raisin, the base beer is very good even without the waffles, but they make it so unique. chain reaction really needs to be part of the conversation about the better breweries in denver, they really kill it across so many styles. we shouldnt forget how good they are! this one was a lot of fun.
