a collaboration with platt park and a solid take on the style, nowhere near as dramatically flavored as the dubbel they brewed with waffles, but some cool nuance to this one too. its got a deep ruby color to it, past amber, rich looking and frothy headed from the tap. it smells like dried cherries and raisins and belgian yeast, clove and other wintery spices give it a more cold weather than summer vibe right away, its hearty for being only 7% abv, but it smells traditional and very appealing. lots of character in the flavor, the classic abbey malt thing, molasses, a touch of spice, some muddled sort of citrus or something there, more alcohol than you would think for its modest strength, and a lingering sweetness from all the grain. nice spice and ester complex from the yeast, not dominating but quite robust, needed to balance all the malt in here. some citrus comes in at the end with the leftover sugar and the alcohol, very pleasant sipper overall. i have always thought these guys do a nice job with the belgian styles.
