Spicy Irish Stout Aged in Tequila Barrels

July 8th, 2015 - The last taster I had before this was a bourbon barrel aged brew. The only thing that might top that is a Spicy Irish Stout aged in a Tequila barrel. I am prepared for nothing and everything going into this dark brew, First, on the aroma I catch a chili pepper type smell, with ghosts of anejo and some padding from brown sugar. The Irish stout nature of the beer is feral and angry, with a thinner palate that seems more true to the style. The aftertaste reminds me of a normal Irish brew with just a slight hotness on the alcohol. I spent most of the beer trying to pinpoint where exactly the tequila comes in, and I remain baffled. It is a stunt, or perhaps it is science, but I think for me it is surplus.
