Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a dark muddy brown color with just a cap of a little white foamy head. Slight lace, but fell off into oblivion fairly quick. The aroma had some dark fruits, light biscuits, some grassy/herbal hops and a little bit of chocolate nibs at the very end. The flavor leaned towards the malts with not too much sweetness. Dark fruits seemed to play a bit too much underneath as I was hoping they would have shown a bit more pizazz in this department. Mostly malty aftertaste with a slight herbal sort of finish. The feel was between light and medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. ABV didn’t feel as high as the brewer projected. I felt like I could slam this beer. Overall, odd scotch ale. Unsure if I would have again as for the style, it seemed really different.

Elk's Scotch Ale has the look and aroma of a classic wee heavy, one of my favorite styles. Living in GR, I drink (and enjoy) plenty of Dirty Bastard, but--gasp!--I actually like Elk's Scotch Ale slightly more. It's rich in flavor and smooth drinking, without alcohol burn or too much bitterness. Great job, Elk!
