Had this on-tap at CDA Brewing’s on-sight brewpub (which is not listed as such in BeerFly at the moment, though I have applied for that to be changed twice) for about $3.50 (cheaper than their satellite brewpub located in the Steam Plant Grill in Spokane).

It was a slightly dark amber color (big shock), with a decent white head that hung around for a while. Moderate amount of lace.

Smell was of mildly sweet malts, but also of mildly bitter and floral hops. Normally, an amber ale is pretty ho-hum, but a decently hoppy one is something I quite enjoy, so I looked forward to the taste of this one.

I was happily correct in expecting this to taste good. Is it utterly fantastic? Well, no. Amber ales are at best session beers for me, not something to fanatically seek out. But this one is done quite well, and I’ve had enough lackluster ambers to enjoy a good one. This one starts off pleasantly but not agressively malty. It’s quickly joined by a pleasingly bitter, but not harsh hoppyness. It’s not even close to American pale ale or IPA hoppiness, but it makes for a splendid contrast to the maltiness.

If I hadn’t been on a budget and saving room in my brain for the 13% abv of the bourbon stout (the best beer this brewery makes, and quaffable only at their brewpubs - Coeur d’Alene & Moscow, ID; Spokane, WA), and the fact that I had to drive about forty miles back to Spokane to go to work, I’d have had several more. While I think this is available at the Steam Plant in Spokane, they serve the beers WAY too cold (unless you find floating ice crystals appealing). Do yourself a favor, and drive the thirty-odd miles east of Spokane to Coeur d’Alene to drink this - or any of their beers (haven't been to their Moscow location yet).

Available by the growler, but it has to be a Coeur d'Alene Brewing Co. growler (I hate it when places do that).
