Crowler thanks to Toby. Dark brown pour with a small frothy beige head. Roasty aroma with plenty of maple sweetness. Taste is more of the sticky, sweet maple, roasty malts, cocoa.

the first i have had or even seen from broken horn, and a really solid brown ale, i hope to check these guys out in person in the next couple of weeks as i explore more of the state here. this is dark for the style, almost looks like a porter, and has a lot of roast to it, which i think is a good call with the maple syrup, which kind of needs that deeper grain element and bitterness for balance with all of the sugar it brings. that makes this pretty robust, lots of big, wintery flavors here, the maple is there, along with a cool coffee note and some crystal type malt sweetness as well, dark chocolate, faint smoke, and a curious almost meaty element. the sweetness isnt too much, but the maple is subdued a little bit in the taste, like its been fermented down quite a lot, and even though this isnt all that dry at the end, not that i necessarily need more maple, but its not as forward as it could be. fuller bodied and way more winter time than spring, but a beer ill definitely drink again if they keep making it. stoked to try more of their stuff, this was a strong first impression!
