[Reviewed from notes taken in 2015.]
Served on-draught into a nonic @ the Draughthouse Pub & Brewery in Austin, TX.
4.50% ABV. 50 IBUs.
HEAD: Pours a half finger worth of head. Off-white colour. Nice complexion. Frothy light consistency; not real thick or creamy. Retention is pretty good - ~5-6 minutes. Leaves light even lacing on the sides of the glass as the head recedes.
BODY: Murky hazy weak copper colour. Dull and uninviting. Nontransparent. Translucent.
No yeast/lees particulate or hop sediment is visible within.
It's an average look for a beer billed as a session IPA (an admitted gimmick of a "style") at best.
AROMA: Light Simcoe-redolent oniony hop character. Floral hop aromatics. Pale malts.
I'm not finding any citrusy, nectary, oily, or piney hop aromatics.
An aroma of average strength. A bit dull. Seems uninspired, lacking adequate hop character. Nevertheless pleasant.
No overt yeasty or off-notes are detectable, nor is any overt booze.
TASTE: Floral, oniony, and faint zesty hop flavours. Clean barley and pale malts comprise the simple malt backbone.
Average duration, intensity, and depth of flavour.
The balance isn't great, nor is the build. Lacks sufficient hop flavour. I do like it in a general sense, but it's underwhelming pedestrian fare, lacking intricacy, nuance, and subtlety.
No yeasty or off-flavours are present.
TEXTURE: Doesn't elevate the beer as a whole or accentuate specific notes. Smooth, wet, somewhat soft, overcarbonated, refreshing, crisp, and medium-bodied. Adequately thick.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.
Suits the flavour profile decently overall. Decent presence on the palate.
OVERALL: Downable and forgettable fare for an IPA, be it a gimmicky session IPA or otherwise. I wouldn't get it again or recommend it to others. There's nothing here for the discerning drinker; it's a swing and a miss from Oasis.
