As the undisputed king of "smoothie" IPA, 450 North brings a fruit filled and bitter taste to the palate on the backs of pineapple, coconut and vanilla. After a generous addition of hops, herb and cereal, this beer is true to it's milkshake name.
Fresh Froot- Double milkshake IPA pours with the same heavy silt as much of their IPA, turbid orange gold in its hue and cast in a matte pastel finish once again. As a creamy ivory froth builds, its tropical scent is as radiant as any fruit punch imaginable. Luscious with fruit sweetness and the honey-like taste from malts, a creaminess of vanilla applies a pulled candy taste to the early palate.
But the middle palate is where the fruit flavors simply blossom. The pineapple and coconut flavors tease the tastebuds with a juicy and dedicated tropic effect while the hops add its own orange, grapefruit, lime and mango medley to round out the milkshake IPA. Vanilla cream and coconut add a smoothness and offsets the rise of hop bitterness, letting only a gentle bite of chive and grassiness to emerge.
Fruit juices continue to flood the finish while its bitterness plays a slightly larger role on the late palate. Medium full bodied but seeming slightly drier because of the resinous nature of hops, the beer is also an anti-scurvy, full recommended daily serving of fruit in a can; trailing into a medium long aftertaste of pineapple, citrus and hop spice. All it's missing in an umbrella in the glass.
