Slushy XXL - Dexter's Daboratory

16 oz can poured into a shaker pint glass. Pours a cloudy light pink color with extra sediment at the bottom of the can. Aroma is good - banana, strawberry, guava, all noticeable. Taste is similar with nice tartness, but also a LOT of astringency, which also hurts the mouthfeel quite a bit. If it were thicker and sans astringency, it would be very good. As it is, this "beer" is a big disappointment.

I normally like this style of beer but was not impressed. It tastes like one of those crappy fruit carbonated drinks. Like a lacroix or whatever. Just no actual good notes to it.

I don't really know who Dexter is but it looks like his laboratory is off the hook! 450 North gives a nod to him and his crib with a strawberry, pink guava, passionfruit and banana smoothie sour ale.

Pouring a basic foreskin peach and with the consistency of baby food puree, Dexter's Daboratory patiently pulls a creamy froth and a tropical scent from its firm body underneath. With the taste of cereal, cream and dough, its upstart of weighted sweetness leads to a fruity middle palate of fruit cocktail, banana cream, tropical tanginess and an oddly bitter finish. A balance of pectin is a peppery offset to the natural tartness of citrus, cider, wine and berry.

Full bodied and off-cloying, the less dense than usual Smoothie XXL beer tries to balance with bitterness and it just interrupts the smoothie flavors that they worked so hard to create.

 

 

Look - thick pureed carrot juice, at least thats what I think it looks like
Smell - beery orange
Taste - pretty much the same as the smell
Feel - great and thick
Overall - tasty
