Drank from a 1 pint / 16 fluid ounces can purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a viscous, deep crimson color and was topped by a small, bubbly, soapy looking crown that quickly dissolved. There was no head retention nor any lacing. As the liquid receded, a fine layer of sediment coated the glass.
The aroma was insanely good. Black cherry notes came through big time. Really fresh and bold but also slightly medicinal. Loads of raspberry as well. Not sure I would peg this for “blue raspberry” however. Freshly picked berries came to mind. Quite sweet overall but not overly so. The only fruit I did not detect was the pineapple.
The flavor profile followed the nose and was nearly as impressive. Black cherry dominated. Like the nose, the cherry came across as slightly medical. Loads of fresh raspberry as well. Excellent melding of sweet and tart. Bit of lemony tartness and acidity on the back end and the finish. More cherry and lingering berry notes after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was full bodied and pulpy, like fruit purée. A finer beaded, moderate effervescence gave the liquid smooth slickness on the palate.
450 North’s smoothie-style fruited sours are usually pretty amazing, and Slushy XL - Freedom Rings was definitely another winner. Like most of their offerings, this was super tasty and went down all too easily.
