Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Served in a tulip
Wow, what an intense looking beer! It poured a super thick and viscous, deep eggplant color. The body was topped by a crackling and popping, dense bubbly mass that slowly dissolved. An oily sheen could be seen floating atop the liquid afterward. As the beer receded, a blanket of fine sediment coated the entire glass.
The aroma was fantastic. Berry notes dominated. The berries smelled a bit medicinal initially, but they really came into their own with time. Blackberry was most prominent. Lots of blueberry too. Hint of raspberry perhaps. I definitely would not pick out either the black currant or the plum however. A subtle, creamy lactose note was also detectable.
Berries also dominated in the flavor profile. Blackberry came through strongest, followed by raspberry and blueberry. Again, I definitely would not pick out the black currant or the plum. Really rich and pure tasting. Quite sweet overall but also subtly sour. Some lemony tartness appeared on the back end and the finish. Hint of lingering seed-like bitterness after the swallow.
Outstanding rich, dense, creamy mouthfeel. Super thick and pulpy, like a fruit smoothie. The liquid contained a super fine, fairly zippy effervescence that gave the beer a nice suppleness on the palate.
Even though the black currant, the plum, the graham cracker and the lactose notes were hardly detectable (and thus the cheesecake reference was completely lost on me), this beer was still incredible. 450 North’s XXL Slushy Series beers never disappoint, and Slushy World XXL - Triple Berry Cheesecakewas was perhaps my favorite one to date.
