As long as the fat kid wants out, 450 North will keep the pastry flavors flowing from their Slushy XL series, settling on the flavors of red velvet cake, cheese cake and ice cream for inspiration of their next beer. ...yes, beer.
Pastel mauve with a heavy silt and creamy lather, the ale slowly settles into the snifter while patiently lifting a pinkish maroon froth. As its pastry-laced sweet scent of cherry, berry, cake mix and cream fill the nose, the senses are transported to the pastry shop. In similar fashion, the taste is rife with cake batter, stone fruit, heavy cream, condensed milk, french vanilla and a hint banana cream.
As the puddin'-like ale coats the middle palate with sugars, starches and dough, the flavors of red velvet cake and butter cream rise ahead of a taste of cherry cream which bridges the gap between pastry and tartness. An eventual tanginess of lemon, lime and orange finishes the session with a pleasant tartness that attempts to balance the sweet batter and cream.
Full bodied, plush and pillowy, the flavors of the session come together nicely but clearly outside of the realm of sour ale. Cloying in its taste, the beer comes certainly recommended but only as a split between two, three, or mid-sized family reunions.
