Ever wanted to drink an alcoholic pixie stick? Well, here's your chance. Flavored with cherry, blackcurrant, banana and raspberry, 450 North slushes their way through a kettle soured, smoothie ale that's jus as mouthwatering as it is magical.
Harry vs The Dark Lord patiently plops into the glass with a musty lavender and mauve color, completely opaque and pouring like melted sorbet. And those sorbet suggestions don't start there. The beer's creamy and sweet scent rolls in those jammy fruits for a smoothie, winey, cidery scent. Similarly in taste, the first sip is a luscious blend of powdered sugar, fructose, taffy, hard candy and light cream.
Steadfast, sweet and fruity, the beer's firm texture continues onto the middle palate as the tastebuds fully saturate in the rich cereal sweetness, fruit sweetness, banana cream and tartness. While palate fatigue quickly becomes an issue, the reprieve of tartness adds a moderately acidic balance to help keep the ale down. Finishing lightly bitter, the assistance from hops and fruit pectins seem unnecessary in the beer's final frame.
Full bodied, plush and unapologetically cloying, the slushy beer certainly lives up to its name, delivering a dessert-like taste and texture that's best enjoyed in small amounts.
