The hunt for both smoothie and sour ale continues as 450 North sets the stage for such an epic chase. Chocked full of orange, carrot, banana and cupcake flavor, this show is just getting started.
Rabbit vs Hunter pours with the visual density and the matte finish of orange and taupe tinted burnt cream. Candied and fruit filled aromas of tropical, citrus and cream waft over the senses with the gusto of carrot cake and fruity tartness. The sweetness of fructose and sweet cream slathers the front of the tongue with honey, cake batter, sourdough and taffy.
But let's skip all the subtlety; the middle palate is all about the balance of banana and carrot with hints of orange, passionfruit and mango additions, and also with the backdrop of cider, white wine and lime that makes the fruits taste more radiant and ripe . Somewhat sherbet-like in its creaminess, the tangy acidity serves as a flavor amplifier heading into a briskly tart taste late on the palate, having the senses thinking of alcoholic carrot cake accented smoothie.
Full bodied because of the density of fruit, the beer drinks more like a smoothie than anything relatable as beer. Its nearly grotesque that the seduction that this fruited sour ale has over the tastebuds of beer drinkers. Not sure if this thing is a beer, but it sure is tasty.
