The label on the can states "STORE COLD. DRINK FRESH" however it doesn't seem like there is a date code on the label or the can itself so I have no idea how fresh this is.

Appearance: There beer has a very milky appearance with a pale yellow color and a completely opaque body. It has a lot of carbonation which is visible from the edge of the glass, but it doesn't form any kind of head or develop any kind of lacing. It isn't the most attractive looking beer.

Aroma: It smells a bit like banana, but more like a candy banana. When pouring the beer it gave off a bit of a chocolate scent as well, but it seems to be gone from the aroma now. The chocolate came across the way a waxy old chocolate bar does. It's not a bad aroma or anything, that is just how the chocolate scent represented itself.

Taste: Up front it has this strong banana pudding flavor which only gets stronger towards the center of the palate. It becomes a lot more tart and it is a bit like a banana yogurt. There is a somewhat strong bitterness towards the back of the palate which is a bit difficult to describe flavor-wise. It is a bit like a bitter orange but without the orange flavor. Banana dominates the beer and it is a strong flavor. It has a bit of a banana cream pie flavor but it's more tart than sweet.

Mouthfeel: The beer is very full bodied and thick. It feels like drinking a milkshake. It coats every corner of the palate and delivers a ton of flavor. It is very smooth. There is a somewhat strong bitterness towards the back of the palate which doesn't really fit with the rest of the beer, but it comes across more as a flavor bitterness than a raw bitterness that abrades the palate.

Overall: The label on the can states that this is a "SMOOTHIE-STYLE SOUR ALE WITH BANANA, MARSHMALLOW, CHOCOLATE, GRAHAM CRACKER & CARAMEL." Aside from some minimal aroma of chocolate, the beer really only ever smelled or tasted like bananas. The name "Lunar Pies" is definitely a reference to Moon Pies, and this does have a Moon Pie vibe to it (although it doesn't taste stale like many Moon Pies do). I probably wouldn't buy it again but it's nice enough that I'm enjoying what I have. I would recommend it to banana lovers but not chocolate lovers.
