The lines are officially blurred between what is beer and what is candy. 450 North is perfectly swirling these flavor worlds with their smoothie sour ale that's chocked full with orange, cherry, lmon, watermelon and grape in true sour jaw breaker fashion.
Like true pureed fruit cocktail, Jawdropper pours like a murky ruby appearance while hitting in the nose with a full candied, floral and fruity scent as hints of Pez come to mind. A host of fruity sweetness with the soothing powdered sugar, orchard fruits, vinous fruit and citrus lead into a richer taste of taffy, sorbet and sherbet as the initial taste is packed with cereal and candied sweetness.
The smoothie sour ale completely saturates the tastebuds as the middle palate is nearly teeth churning in its intense, juicy, sweet and rich taste. Notions of booze-laced jam and fruit rollup also come to mind just as the listed fruits drape in melted sorbet and the heavy suggestions of simple syrups before a tangy and winey balance steps in late. Finishing with a light tannic bite and citrusy bitterness, the late taste is mildly cidery and met with a pastry tart balance.
Full bodied, candy-sweet and firmly meant as a dessert beer, the malty-sweetness and candied remnants outlast the sourness as a long aftertaste of fruitiness, fruit peel and pulp linger deeply on the tongue in true candy form.
