In honor of the unofficial 420 holiday, 450 North brings something else to the party- beer! Wrapped in a cocoon of pineapple soft serve ice cream, peach, pineapple and pink vanilla cotton candy, there might just be a citrusy side to this event than just the medicinal stuff.
Just like pudidn' in the glass, Ice Cream Indica pours like a tropical smoothie while reeling in the nose with a full pineapple and vanilla scent. A drift of ice cream shops with the soothing scent of vanilla, cake shop and french vanilla lead into a rich taste of condensed milk, sorbet and vanilla cake batter as the initial taste is dense with cereal and fruity.
The smoothie sour ale unabashedly saturates the tastebuds, teeth coating in its intensity. Juicy, creamy and rich, notions of ice cream do come to mind. As the peach fold into ice cream, the suggestions of vanilla and pineapple soothe the senses before a light acidity steps in late. Finishing with a balancing tannic bite and a citrusy tartness, the late taste is cidery, winey and smooth.
Full bodied, pleasantly cloying and firmly meant as a dessert beer, the malty-sweetness and berry remnants outlast any sourness as a long aftertaste of fruit bits, piths and pulp only add to the ice cream and the fruit smoothie flavor; and with no real suggestion of the dank herbs that are prescribed.
