Hubba Bubba! 450 North’s new cat on the block boasts the character of grape, lime, grape and strawberry candy flavorings for a new twist on sour ale.
Not as porridge-like as usual, but still pouring a densely packed grape, lavender and maroon appearance, the scantly headed Big Cat rises to to nose with the sensation of grape bubble gum, kool-aid and the jelly that everyone usually passes on. Juicy, fruity and sweet on the early palate, the ale opens up with concord grape juice and a sugary substrate.
As the fruity sweetness settles in on the middle palate, the same bubble gum flavors add curiosity and fun dip flavors to the session in such a child-like whimsy. With no bitterness or real beer flavor to mention, the ale extends with a medium acidity of citrus, cider and wine right through to a candied sweet finish.
Full bodied, jammy and softly cloying, the ale is a far departure from common beer flavor but from the package to the finish, this beer is meant for video game playing, kool-aid sippin’ ten year old in all of us.
