Getting this spring party season going, 450 North embraces their inner cajun spirit with a berry, citru and tropical flavored beer that's a smoothier take on hurricane cocktails.
Pouring like quick-set concrete, the Slushy XXXL Mardi Gras carries a muddy mauve and purple density with a slow separation of clumping froth from alcoholic smoothie underneath. Bold smoothie scents of citrus, dark berry and tropical fruit swirl around the nose with the tanginess of wine cooler and seltzer ahead of a super sweet taste of agave, cereal, cream and candy. Tart on the middle palate, the rise of lime and underlying lemon, green apple, white grape and gooseberry helps to balance the intense sweetness while the taste finishes fruity, mildly tart and heavy.
Full bodied, creamy, smooth and cloying, the beer in no way resembles beer, but as a alcoholic smoothie take on that popular bayou cocktail, this thing is quite tasty.
