Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazed golden yellow color with a small and thin head of white foam. The head fades rather fast, leaving a touch of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is super heavy of an orange juice smell mixed with a big oat bread smell. Along with these aromas comes some other notes of tangerine and crème as well as aromas of banana and floral hop notes mixed with hibiscus and what smells like dandelions. Somewhat odd, but oddly inviting.
Taste – The taste begins with an orange and tangerine forward flavor that is matched equally with some oat bread and light grainy malt. There are some grapefruit and herbal hops upfront, both of which remain rather constant throughout. Some of the floral tastes that were detected in the nose join in during the flavor as well, as it moves forward on the tongue. At the same time, more and more crème flavors develop, mixing with the orange to give a flavor akin to an orange creamsicle. Toward the end there is alight pithy flavor that joins in, and with the rest of the tastes leave an interesting, but rather pleasant, mildly sweet and hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thicker and chewier, while the carbonation is on the lower side. Great for the mix of sweet orange creamsicle, oat, and hop, making for a medium that allows the rich flavors to be appreciated.
Overall – I was a little hesitant to take this on initially as I thought I would probably be a malty, sweet bomb. Instead, I was surprised by a unique balanced taste profile of hop, oat, and orange crème. While not the best brew out there, it is fun to try.
