Stepping away from their slushy ways for a moment and soaking in the flavors of coffee, cream, banana and stout, 450 North also finds both bourbon barrels and a step outside of their comfort zone.
Dark brown and pouring like hot chocolate, Barrel-Aged Vietnamese Stout draws in the senses with a chocolaty, coffee, nougat and milky scent with hints of bourbon wafting about. Malty sweet and smoothly textured, the first sip provides a creamy milk chocolate flavor with earthy coffee, cream and caramelized bourbon warmth rewarding the palate with each sip. Finishing sweet and balanced with wood spices and Vietnamese coffee roast, the ale extends in true dessert fashion.
Full, creamy and plush on the palate, the ale shows no real taste of banana, but does revel hints of yogurt-like twang in the deep finish and aftertaste.
