Label states "unpasteurised and unfiltered dark lager".
Hazy, dark brown. Really dark. With a two finger, off-white head that recedes to a cap. Looks like a brown ale. Plenty of lacing.
Very little smell. When agitated, some sweetness comes through but it's marginal.
Low level of toasted malts. Not much else to taste. No hops that I can discern. No bitterness. Some sweetness. May have improved if I'd left it to warm?
Thin mouthfeel with a decent level of carbonation. Just about medium body.
This is a confusing beer. It's not an ale, but it doesn't have the characteristics of a lager either. Dark lager? Dark something...

Pored cloudy brown, with thick diminishing head. Aroma: unusual, musty, berry, spice. Taste: fruity ,spicy , caramel, some similarities to Belgian beer. Mouthfeel: chalky. Overall: an enjoyable beer. Quite different from English beer which I am used to.

500ml bottle poured into a nonic pint glass
Look: Pours a fairly murky dark brown, which isn't entirely surprising as the bottle claims that the beer is both unfiltered and unpasteurised. About a fingers-width of light tan head which leaves behind some lacing.
Smell: Quite yeasty - again, hardly surprising due to it being unfiltered. There are some dark fruit and malt notes there, and a hint of metallicness as it warms up.
Taste: Again, quite yeasty and malty - despite being served at more or less the 'recommended' temperature (4-6C) there wasn't a lot else apart from some hoppiness peeking through at the end. A bit disappointing.
Feel: Despite the murky looks, it's actually fairly easy drinking - it's malty and yeasty up front with a fairly dry finish.
Overall: Bit of an odd one, this - the bottle states that it's "Craft Brewed in Bavaria" but a cursory trawl of the web shows that it actually contract brewed in Germany on behalf of a South African collective - nothing wrong with that, but potentially a bit misleading. Either way, this isn't half bad - it's definitely a dark lager rather than a dunkelweiss and should be approached as such. Not a bad brew at all, but not the sort of thing I'd actively seek out.

The Dark Unfiltered Lager from &Union was a decent beer. The beer poured an nearly opaque dark with decent head that left a spotty lace. The scent was slightly roasty with decent bitter hops. The taste had good dark roasted malt flavor, with a slight chocolate undertone. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a decent beer and offers a nice break from the typical lagers.
