A 500ml bottle with a BB of June 2014. Picked up a while back from the York Beer & Wine shop. Described on the label as an unfiltered amber lager.

Poured into a straight pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy brownish-amber hue with fine sediment and plentiful carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a thick surface layer. Aroma of grainy caramel malt with hints of light nuttiness, mild biscuits, bread, earthy yeast and faint stewed leaves. Rather nice.

Tastes of grainy caramel malt with a dry finish. Notes of toasted grain, mild caramel, a slight nuttiness, earthy yeast, subtle bready hints and faint stewed leaves. Well-attenuated, followed by a lingering, dry yeasty character. Little bitterness to speak of. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with pleasant carbonation and good body. Faintly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of earthy yeast, mild grain and a twinge of caramel.

Not too bad, in fact it exceeds my expectations. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour are a satisfyingly rounded blend of grainy caramel malt and earthy yeast notes. Possesses more depth than most lagers. Lovely body. Easy drinking with low bitterness and a malty character that lends it a subtle sweetness. Goes down a treat - worth sampling if you come across it.

The Berne was another solid offering from &Union (luv the name!). The beer poured a hazy amber with white head that left a spotty lace. The smell and taste were mostly caramelly and toasty malts. The mouthfeel was a medium body lager with good carbonation. Overall the beer was good an a nice break from all the pale lagers.
