This was the first of numerous Coeur dAlene / Steam Plant ales to showcase the house yeast strain a meaty, punky English variety that shows me no favor. The smell of this golden ale is typical and emulates an old sweatshirt aging in a ripe laundry basket. I know that doesnt sound appealing and
well, it isnt. But neither does it seem entirely out of place. Its just a bit too English for my tastes. Kind of like Benny Hill, or in this case, Benny Hills sweatshirt. The taste is similarly punky and could stand some cleaning.
The brew is clouded lemon-yellow with low CO2, a contoured body, and indifferent lace. Alcohol would appear to be at the introductory end of the session scale.
You may care for this one more than I did. But the yeast strain buries the malt and the hop of it and tends to hang heavy on the tongue.
