A lacto-fermented Belgian brune brewed with date sugar. Rich malt and stone fruit flavours and a surprisingly crisp finish make 8° a complex and compelling brew. The drinker is greeted by aromas of plum and clove, produced by a special yeast from West Flanders. This is followed by the flavour of date sugar and English crystal malt and capped by a brisk, lightly tart finish, the result of a brief lactic fermentation. 8° is refermented in the bottle, so pour with care to leave the yeast sediment in the bottle. Using Belgian yeast, European hops, and a good deal of care and patience, Dageraad brews small batches of balanced, complex beer.
Ingredients: Malted barley, wheat, sugar, hops, yeast, water.

Clear red-brown color. The tan colored head was almost half the height of the liquid in the glass. The head took a couple of minutes to drop down to a thin skiff across the top, leaving no lacing on the side of the glass. There was a moderate flow of fine bubbles from the bottom of the glass.
Strong plum, light apricot, and a bit of dark roasted malt as the strongest scents. There is a lighter amount of spice, although it is slightly tingling my nostrils. Swirling the glass added in a faint funk that was half-way to a barnyard smell.
Strong stewed fruit flavors - mix of plums/prunes and the apricots I could smell. There is a very light touch of cloves. This is all blended with simple sweet and tart flavors. The malt rides under everything. The end result is much like a Christmas cake or pudding. The aftertaste is mostly sweet and sour fruit, with some spices poking through. The fruit and spice hang on for a long time afterwards.
Slowly turns into a fine foam with just the tiniest tongue tingling. Starts off with a medium body that gets heavier as the foam develops. Has a touch of a spice/alcohol burn that continues with the aftertaste.
Half way through April is late to be drinking this. I feel like I should have my feet toasting in front of a roaring fire in order to properly appreciate it. The second pour from the bottle picked up more of the lees, which turned it hazy and added a lot more spice to the flavor. It was almost like having a different, but related, beer in the second glass.

Dageraad Brewing '8' @ 8.9% , served from a 650 ml bottle
A-pour is a golden/amber from the bottle to a dark amber in the glass with a large beige head which dissipates into a fine spotty lace ring
S-Belgian yeast , Euro hops
T-sweet malt start , tart stone fruit finish
MF-ok carbonation , feels full bodied
Ov-expecting more , just an ok beer

650 ml bottle poured into a glass mug. Lightly hazy dark amber, copper color with a towering head of frothy white clouds and patchy lace. Aromas of yeasty, doughy bread, fruity esters, spicy Belgian yeast, and dark fruits. Flavors continue in kind with layers of stewed dark fruits, caramel malt and slight hints of sour lactic funk. Medium body and relatively soft carbonation. A nice complex brew with a little funk.

650ml bottle - nice to see that they are making this one anew.
This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat fizzy ecru head, which leaves a few instances of broad, streaky lace around the glass as it eventually sinks away.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee sweetness, estery Belgian yeast, some bruised apple and pear fruitiness, subtle earthy spice, and very laid-back leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, applesauce and pear compote, plumped-up raisins, an ethereal Low Countries yeastiness, some minor fruity sourness, and more understated earthy, musty, and gently perfumed floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly weak after those opening theatrics, via its workaday frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, nothing really mussing or fussing about here. It finishes trending dry, the malt faltering a bit in its dotage.
Overall - while this brewery's offerings typically blow up my proverbial skirt, I am left kind feeling kind of cold with this one. Much more dubbel-esque in its presentation, than the style listed here (one of my favourites, BTB), which isn't a bad thing, per se, but mildly disappointing. Ah well.

Pours a hazy light brown, reddish colour. Whitish tan head dissipates quickly. Aroma of dark fruit, raisins and dates and some spicy phenols. Flavour is wonderfully complex. Hint of sourness, with overlapping tart fruits and raisin flavours. Finishes slightly herbal and earthy. Reminds me of a Gran Cru
