Weak flavor and lack of body. They need some tweaks to get this to the right spot. Their NE IPAs are amazing so i'm sure they could figure this one out!

I tried this at the brewery. It poured a opaque dark with ecru head that did not leave a nice lace. The scent had hints of chocolate and vanilla. The taste was a weak snickers bar. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with subtle carbonation. Overall its an interesting take on a stout.

Dark brown color where only a modicum of light passes. Little lace from the relatively small head.

Sweet chocolate aroma.

I notice a creamy, almost like coconut, flavor. The chocolate is very rich (the low carbonation enhances it) and chewy. It reminds me of a Mounds bar and I don't know why. Short, but tasty, aftertaste of chocolate and cream.

Sample at EBF Saturday
Dark chocolate color with a thin tan head. Aromas of German chocolate cake, really. Lots of coconut in the flavor with maybe a hint too little sweetness to back it up.

The beer has a medium feel; not thin, and not thick enough to be viscous. Taste is very vanilla and coconut forward, especially on the finish, and there's a nice dark chocolate taste throughout. This was apparently brewed to be a "German chocolate cake" stout, and I think they nailed it. Not something I'd be able to drink more than a glass or two of at a time, but delicious, and a great surprise from Forbidden Root. Highly recommended.

Draft served by the brewer at CBS Brewpub Shootout 2017.
Dark brownish black, thin skim of foam that fades away to nothing, no lace.
Aroma is pretty nice, and the adjuncts come through to give the impression of nutty coconut German chocolate cake.
Taste is a bit sweet, but the adjuncts come through well again and it taste like sweet German chocolate cake.
Medium bodied with low carbonation, sits on the palate and is a touch cloying.
It was a one and done for me, but made a great pairing with the delicious marinated lamb ribs they were serving.
