Collaboration with Eurotrash. On-draught @ Kaapse for their barleywine festival.
HEAD: None.
BODY: Deep dark Amber. No yeast is visible within. Translucent; nontransparent.
AROMA: Treacle, sweet Amber malts, indistinct fruits (maybe prune?), Caramel. Sweet but not too boozy.
Aromatic intensity is average.
TASTE: Rum-drenched dark fruits (prune, dates, raisin), treacle, Amber and Caramel malt sweetness, sugarcane, maybe Candi syrup. Possibly molasses.
TEXTURE: Thick and viscous, but never syrupy. Well-carbonated. Full-bodied (to style). Smooth, finishing dry. Has a bit of a rough presence on the palate. Gooey and chewy.
Complements the taste nicely, though it fails to accentuate specific flavours or to elevate the beer as a whole.
OVERALL: A balanced if relatively simple barleywine with some nice elements. 5.50 euro/25cl pour isn't a purchase I'd make again, but this is nice work in its style - though make no mistake, this is a sipper. The 11.50% ABV lends it noticeable alcohol warmth.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
