Appearance: Crystal-clear reddish-amber in color, with a massive, somewhat coarse, snow-white head, with excellent retention. Fine, scattered Belgian-style lacing adorns the glass walls. The carbonation is moderate, fine-beaded, and slow-rising.
Aroma: Toasted malt and noble hops dominate the aroma, with the Munich malt dominating.
Taste: Opens with a wave of nicely toasted Munich malt. This carries throughout the taste, though noble hops offer a fine compliment. A bit of bitter cocoa is notable as well. Finishes with A surge of toasted malt, though the hops linger on to the close.
Mouth feel: Full and soft, pleasant.
Drinkability/notes: Just excellent, a Belgian brewer has captured the essence of a quintessential German style. A very nice example.
Presentation: Packaged in a eleven-point-two-ounce brown glass long neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
