On tap at McGillicuddy’s, Five Corners, Essex Junction. This was poured into a pint glass, but I get what’s going on. The appearance was, obviously a black color with a bar pour’s kind of slim white head that dissipated fairly quickly. Spotty/speckled lacing glossing the sides of the glass. The aroma had a nice blend between roasted dark malts, chocolate nibs, nice, bitter pine hops. Some spicy rye. The flavor initially yields to the blend of the roast to the sweet; coffee beans, chocolate nibs, and bitter pine. Spicy rye far underneath. On the palate, this one sat about a medium in body. Some sessionability to this. Nicely carbonated. Rye penetrates appropriately on my tongue. Overall, nicely gauged Black IPA like a baby Wookey Jack. Though ABV much lower and the rye is quite underneath, this one definitely shows the potential to be a forerunner of great black IPA’s in Vermont.
