solid cream ale here fermented on fresh blueberries, quite a pleasing summer pint, a well made and simple base beer, the fruit really shines, and they did a good job of leaving some fruit sugar in this to retain maximum blueberry identity, but drying it out enough to still be drinkable, this doesnt taste backsweetened or anything, its cohesive and natural. pink to light violet hued with a faint haze and an average white head from the tap at the source. the nose is floral to the point of almost having a bit of a perfume thing going on, light vanilla richness too but they didnt add any i dont think, a fine earthy cereal grain base at the core of it, no hops to speak of, and a definite blueberry personality, although hints of black currant and even dark red wine grape come in as well in the fruit profile. the flavor is about the same, moderately sweet much of the way, bold enough on the fruit for sure, easy to place as blueberry, slight jammy concentrated character, white and pink florals abound, especially as it warms, and i still pick up that suggestion of vanilla from the nose. summery blueberry flavor, enough grain to keep it beery, and a near neutral yeast that stops short of taking it clean, but i like where it leaves off. good carbonation cuts through some of the back end sweetness, and overall this is a pleasant drinker with mass appeal, better than the standard fruited ale offering, more authenticity, some sense of place here too which i of course like. had a nice time in our brief visit to simple roots, these guys make some thoughtful beers and it was great to finally check out their space!
